Crossfit Girls

The girls just finished 2 weeks of Crossfit camp at my gym.  I love crossfit- it is so much fun and I really enjoy it- I was excited that they were offering a kids camp and the girls were really excited to try it since they've come into the gym and watched me workout before- they thought it looked fun.

Elliott really enjoyed it a lot- she is very much a sports girl and whenever she comes and watches me she thinks it looks easy- and wants me to make her a workout for home.  After the first few days she was already telling me she wanted to do it every summer- and asking how old she had to be to do the class that I do.  And my favorite quote "I want to do Crossfit for the rest of my life" She's going to be awesome at it- starting this young- I only wish I had started even in my 20's.

Berkley on the other hand, wasn't a huge fan.  My favorite Berk quote this week- was actually after I asked her if she'd like me to sign her up for soccer or tball for the fall.  "No, I'm actually not that into sports" She did really well though- even though she didn't want to go much by week 2 there was minimal complaining and I think she worked pretty hard.  She was the youngest in the class- the youngest age that they allow and I told her she hasn't even done any PE yet at school so even the most basic movements like situps/pushups and jumping rope were new to her.

BOTH my girls can do a strict pullup.  Which is very impressive especially to me because after over a year at crossfit I am still struggling on my pullups. They get their monkey strength from their daddy.

One of the other things they did at camp is talk about healthy food.  I got pretty into this last year- as I'm sure some of my FB friends know.  We've totally changed how we eat around here.  I try to stay as close to Paleo as I can (which isn't always very close).  The main change for the kids is that there is minimal processed food- meaning no goldfish, chips, snack foods from boxes, and not quite as much bread. I try to do everything as from scratch as I can/ know how to.  So they've heard a lot from me- they have these planet box lunch boxes that are little divided containers and they've really enjoyed the lunches I've come up with- as opposed to peanut butter and jelly every day for E and ham sandwiches everyday for Berk.  Lunchables used to be a big treat and very coveted around here- but after finding out how nasty and horrible they are I started packing my own version- with real ham, real cheese and healthy crackers.  Apparently they talked about lunchables at camp because E came home telling me all about how bad they were and how you can pack your own.  Another way they are like their Daddy - he thought I was all nutso and weird for how I changed our food until he read a book that someone had recommended to him that said exactly the same things I had been telling him.  Now he's totally on board- although he still likes to throw me under the bus as the "crazy food lady" to friends and anyone else that will listen ;)

I love their little shirts- and they decided they wanted to wear sweaty bands to workout like I do.
The back says Crossfitter in training
Warming up with some jumping jacks
 Some stretching

 A few pushups

Berk getting ready to jump rope
Her little situps are the cutest thing ever- just scroll down fast for the progression.  I LOVE it!

Elliott is super fast at her jump rope- she's even working on and getting a few double unders- (spinning the rope so fast it goes under your feet twice on each jump) which is another thing I'm STILL working on.  We jump rope in the hallway now practicing together.
Her situps were so fast I just have a bunch of pics of her just like this.
I'm so glad they got to see why I love crossfit so much- and I have at least one of them that's crossfit crazy now- I'm sure in a few years Berk will love it too!

Those girls are just like their mommy! (Especially Elliott) they look adorable doing all those exercises. It was great seeing you all last week!
